I faced my fears and actually ran a real 5k. I was so nervous, but I did it. I ran The Beat Goes On 5k in Benton, AR. It is put on by the hospital where Aaron and my Mom work.
The weather was perfect. At the start of the race, it was about 45. Trust me, I was only cold for about half a mile. It was pretty neat, because I got to see several people I graduated with and realized that I am doing pretty good for myself if you know what I mean.
The race went very well, but I could have ran harder. The first mile I was scared that I was going to over do it and not be able to finish it, so I held back. The second mile I was still holding back, because I wasn’t really sure where the half way point was, but when I hit the third mile I let it all hang out. I wasn’t even out of breath when I finished the race, so I know I could have done better. I learned a good lesson from that.
I talked my sister-in-law into running with me. She did good and finished in 37 minutes, pretty good for not running in over a year.
Anyway, my official results were pretty good for my first time out. I ran the 5k in 28:17.58. I came in 6th in my age group and 30th overall. No too shabby, but the competitor in me got awakened. I think I may be addicted now. I have two more races I am looking at in March. I will do better next time.
What do you think?
