I decided to run my second 5k in Benton today. I am mad at myself.
First of all, I took the whole week of Spring Break off from running. Which wouldn’t be so bad, but last week I ran extra hard and did a really hard CrossFit work out on Wednesday. Needless to say I was icing my legs last night because I was still sore. Whoops. I ate about a million grams of protein Thursday and Friday to recover, but nothing is better than pure rest.
Second of all, I didn’t even glance at the race route. I have learned a valuable lesson from this. I had no idea when to shift gears. I just ran normal until I realized the race was almost over. I turned a corner and I saw the finish line and was like, “oh crap, I better start running.” I finished the race in exactly 28 minutes, but I wasn’t even out of breath. I could have done a lot better.
Anyway, I will do better for my next race. I am actually going to train for reals. I am using the SmartCoach at RunnersWorld.com, so I will tell you how it goes.
The only thing I don’t like about the SmartCoach, is that my easy runs are at a ridiculously slow pace of 11:15 per mile. I don’t feel comfortable running that slow. It makes my legs hurt. Weird I know, but I naturally run a 10 minute mile and if I run slower it fatigues me more.
There was a man there taking pictures, but I really don’t want to see how bad I jiggle, so I will stay away from those 🙂
What do you think?
