DNA Testing Services Terms and Conditions

Research and Breeder Informational Use Only

By submitting samples to Ederington Homestead for poultry DNA testing, the client agrees to the following terms and conditions.

1. Nature of Services
Ederington Homestead provides non-diagnostic poultry DNA testing for research, educational, and breeder informational purposes only.

Testing is limited to identifying the presence or absence of specific, well-established genetic traits using PCR-based methods. Services do not include veterinary diagnostics, health screening, or disease detection.


2. No Veterinary or Medical Services
The client acknowledges and agrees that:
No veterinary services are provided
No medical or health advice is offered
Results do not diagnose disease, predict health, or assess animal welfare
Results do not replace consultation with a licensed veterinarian

This service is not intended for clinical or diagnostic use as defined by USDA or FDA.


3. Tests Offered
Ederington Homestead currently offers DNA testing for the following traits only:
• Blue egg gene (O / oocyan)
• Avian sex determination (ZW / ZZ)
• Lavender (self-blue) gene
• Frizzle gene

No testing is offered for disease status, disease resistance, parasites, performance traits, egg quality, egg darkness, bloom, temperament, fertility, or production.


4. Sample Submission & Quality
The client is responsible for submitting samples according to the provided Sample Submission Instructions.

Ederington Homestead is not responsible for:
Poor DNA yield due to improper collection or handling
Degraded or contaminated samples
Inconclusive results resulting from low-quality samples

In cases of insufficient DNA, the client may be asked to resubmit samples. Additional fees may apply.


5. Accuracy & Limitations
While PCR-based testing is highly reliable when samples are adequate, the client understands that:
Results reflect only the DNA present in the submitted sample
Genetic expression may vary due to environmental or management factors
No guarantees are made regarding phenotype, performance, or breeding outcomes

All results are provided as genetic information only.


6. Turnaround Time
Estimated turnaround times are provided as a guideline only and are not guaranteed.

Ederington Homestead is not liable for delays due to:
Shipping issues
Sample quality concerns
Equipment maintenance or reagent availability
Seasonal workload increases


7. Fees & Payment
All fees are for:
Sample processing
Reagents
Laboratory labor and analysis

Fees are not charged for certification, diagnosis, or approval.

Payments are non-refundable once testing has begun.


8. Use of Results
The client agrees that:
Results are for personal research or breeding records only
Results may not be marketed as certifications, guarantees, or health clearances
Ederington Homestead’s name may not be used to imply endorsement or regulatory approval


9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
Ederington Homestead shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
Liability is limited to the cost of the testing service provided
No responsibility is assumed for breeding decisions, financial losses, or animal outcomes


10. Indemnification
The client agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Ederington Homestead from any claims, damages, or liabilities arising from:
Misuse or misinterpretation of results
Breeding or sales decisions based on test results
Third-party reliance on provided information


11. Privacy & Confidentiality
Client information and test results are treated as confidential and will not be shared without consent, except as required by law.


12. Right to Refuse Service
Ederington Homestead reserves the right to refuse or discontinue service for any reason, including but not limited to:
Improper sample submission
Requests outside the scope of services offered
Misrepresentation of results or intended use


13. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the client’s jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles.


14. Acceptance of Terms
Submission of samples constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions in full.
