Back in the Swing

Whew, we made it through the first week of school with no major catastrophes.

Last year, one of my biggest issues was losing track of time at night. I would get preoccupied with homework or playing and realize it was 7:45 and the boys hadn’t had a bath! Not this year. I have set up alarms on my phone for reminders.

I explained the schedule to the boys and the most amazing thing has happened. When the first alarm goes off, there is no griping or whining, the boys stop playing and head to the bathroom! It is magical. During snack time, we plan breakfast for the next morning and pack lunches together. This has dramatically cut down on the “I’m not hungry” and “I don’t know what I want” excuses I got last year. The alarm reminders may be old news to you, but if you don’t have a system like this in place, I highly recommend implementing this routine.

My classes are going great. I only have to sit in class on Tuesday and Thursday, so my stress is dramatically reduced. I have plenty of time to work on my senior research project on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and I also get to volunteer at school. Perfect. Don’t worry, I will bore you with the details of my research later.

Evan is doing great in second grade and still likes his teacher. John David is enjoying his time at Mrs. Kim’s house. We have had an awesome first week. I hope every week goes this smooth!

In other news, I bought myself a little something. I finally purchased myself an iPad mini. I love the little sucker. For now, I am just using it to read books and play on Facebook and Twitter, are there any great apps I should be using?

Anyway, anything good happen to you this week? Any tips on making school routines easier?
