I was raised Missionary Baptist.  I may not have been listening very well, but I don’t recall the word “Advent” ever being used.  I started noticing the word last year, but really didn’t think much of it.  This year, all my friends on Twitter were saying: “Advent this” and “Advent that”, and well, I googled it…

Advent begins the fourth Sunday before Christmas (today) and is a time to prepare your hearts for the celebration of the coming of Jesus.  Well, I don’t know about you, but with all the hustle and bustle of getting ready for Christmas I need to quiet my mind a little extra each day and remember what Christmas is all about.  I am thankful for this direction during a time that my heart needs to be reminded the true reason my family celebrates Christmas.

I also stumbled up a website for the women called She Reads Truth.  I put a neat little button on my side bar for easy access.  Basically, a bunch of women read the same devotional every day and discuss it on Twitter using the hashtag #SheReadsTruth and in the comments on the website.  Basically, a big ole Ladies Bible study.  How fun. Well, I downloaded the Advent reading plan on my YouVersion app and I started reading it today.  If you are a lady I hope you will join us and if you aren’t a woman, don’t worry, YouVersion has several Advent reading plans for everyone.

What do you think?
