Week 1 Recap {Half Marathon Training}

I have signed up for a half marathon on September 29, my 31st birthday.  I ran 3 miles on my 30th birthday, so it is only fitting to increase the goal for this year.  I downloaded the Runner’s World Smart Coach app, plugged in my last 5k time, and it gave me a very east 16 week plan to follow.  It tells me exactly when, how far, and how fast to run.  You know me, I don’t want to have to “think” too much, so this is perfect.

Week 1 was easy for me, because I have been running these distances for a while now.

Monday
2 mile easy run at 11:05 minutes/mile.  I actually ran 11:01 minutes/mile and finished in 22:01.

Wednesday
5 mile tempo run with 1 mile warm up, 3 miles at 9:28 minutes/mile, and 1 mile cool down.  I did this on the dread mill, so I could make sure I actually ran the right pace and finished in 50:04.

Thursday
2 mile easy run at 11:05 minutes/mile.  Ok, I just ran the stinking 2 miles without looking at my pace and finished in 20:38. Whoops.

Saturday
7 mile long run at 11:05 minutes/mile.  I did a little better sticking to the pace and actually ran the 7 miles in 1:15:00 with an average pace of 10:42 minutes/mile.

Week 1 is in the books! You can click on the little runner on the top of my right sidebar to be my “friend” on RunKeeper.  It will be fun and we can encourage each other.
